My photography journey…. so far!

I’m often asked “How did you get into photography?”. The honest answer is, it was purely by accident. Sat in an airport terminal waiting for a delayed flight, I did what everyone else does, I wandered round the shops. While usually I don’t buy anything much, I stumbled upon a Canon 350D for sale. I don’t really know why, but I bought it, and from then on I was hooked. That was back in 2007, just as digital photography was really starting to become more accessible.

Nowadays, the camera has changed, and the photographer has certainly changed, but the passion and enthusiasm is still there. In recent years it’s become more of a profession for me. I’m lucky to live in Scotland, which has some of the most incredible locations imaginable for the landscape photographer.

I’ve been fortunate to sell quite a number of prints, and although more and more photos bombard us every day, the best images only look their best when they are printed. I think more and more people are starting to realise and appreciate that.

As you can see I now also lead workshops, primarily in Scotland, for landscape photographers of all abilities. I’ve always had the ability to explain complex subjects in a clear to understand way, and that’s exactly what these workshops are all about.

With the range of equipment, composition theories, the challenges and opportunities of the Great British weather, not to mention technical and post-processing challenges facing us, it can be hard to strip all that back to the basics. However, by doing so, I’ve become a better photographer. Regardless of your starting point, I’m confident a workshop with me will help you develop your skills, your eye and keep that passion for photography alive and well.

For all of us hooked on digital photography the journey doesn't really have a final destination, just stops along the way. Whether you buy a print, join me on a workshop or simply browse my favourite images in the Gallery, thank you for visiting my website!
